On April 26, 1686 AD, or May 6, 7194 AD, the Polish ambassadors concluded a treaty with the Russian boyars in Moscow, "On Eternal Peace between the Two States, on Royal and Royal Titles, on the Cession to Russia of the Cities of Smolensk, Roslavl, Little Russia, Kyiv, and Other Cities."
This treaty, known in Russian history as the "Eternal Peace," formalized the agreements between the Russian Tsardom and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth regarding the division of the Hetmanate, i.e., the lands over which the hetman of the Zaporozhian Host had at various times exercised his authority. The resulting truce marked the end of the Russo-Polish War, which had lasted since 1654 in what is now Ukraine and Belarus. This war between Russia and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was primarily fought to recapture territories lost by Russia during the Time of Troubles. Before that, there had been the Smolensk War of 1632-1634, when Russia attempted to recapture Smolensk and the surrounding territories, also ceded to the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth after the Time of Troubles. Now, in order, or rather, in reverse order, historians Tatyana Chernikova and Kirill Kochegarov will tell us how relations between the Russian Tsardom and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth developed after the Time of Troubles.
