Released Sep 1969 from the album “Get Ready”

The Cover:
I used the Music Man Stingray with a bit of Overdrive for some punch.
Kept with the tabs except for a slight change in the chorus omitting open strings. Just cleaner.

The Origin:
Written by Smokey Robinson; originally recorded by the Temptations.
Motown, in a strategic effort to expand, began signing white only bands with the hope of gaining market share on FM Radio.

Label and Sales:
The Rare Earth label was a passing suggestion by Rare Earth for Motown to name it’s fledgling subsidiary and to their surprise, Motown agreed.

Get Ready is Rare Earth’s RIAA Platinum-certified second studio album Earth. It was released on September 30, 1969 by Motown Records. "Get Ready “peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1970.

Inside Scoop:
In the album version of the song recorded from a live show, each member of the band performed a solo, resulting in a twenty-one-minute rendition of the song.

It has been debated whether the actual recording for the album was really recorded at a concert. It has been noted that the audience sounds throughout the song are repetitive and canned.

Most Notable:
Rare Earth had a number of Top 40 hits in 1970–71, including a remake of The Temptations' "(I Know) I'm Losing You". Rock Bands covering Motown classics was not limited to Rare Earth. Vanilla Fudge (The Supremes: You Keep Me Hangin’ On; Jr. Walker & the All Stars: Shotgun) also did so successfully.

Rare Earth Members
Gil Bridges, saxophone, flute, vocals; Peter Rivera, lead vocals, drums; John Parrish, bass guitar, trombone, vocals; Rod Richards, guitar, vocals; and Kenny James, keyboards.
