How To Avoid Cure Inhibition With Platinum Silicone

In this video I explain the common causes of platinum silicone cure inhibition and the process of testing materials against model and pattern surfaces. If you follow this testing process, you will all but eliminate cure inhibition in your mold shop. Be aware that sometimes you might need to switch to a Tin Cure formula in order to mold a contaminated surface. In that case I recommend molding with TC-5024. Once the TC-5024 Tin Cure silicone mold is made, a resin pattern can be cast and remolded using platinum silicone.

Remember that platinum silicones have different sensitivity to cure inhibition and just because one platinum silicone is not inhibited, it doesn't mean all will not be inhibited. Cure speed and other physical properties will effect the manner in which a silicone is inhibited. This is why it is important to run you cure inhibition test with the same silicone you will be using on the final mold.

In this video I used TC-5130F fast silicone to test for inhibition and to mold the primed PLA 3D printed part. I added silicone pigment and SC-5001 thickener to the TC-5130F. This gave the silicone some color contrast against the test surfaces. The thickener allowed me to apply the test silicone to a variety of surfaces, horizontal and vertical.
