The new Hekla testnet was released on April 25th, 2024. This is latest release of Taiko’s development which is now available to the public and equipped with interesting new features. This release includes the implementation of EIP-4844, which allows the use of “blobs” for data availability, significantly improving network throughput by compressing data. Additionally, Hekla changes gas dynamics by quadrupling the L2 block’s gas emission and octupling the block’s gas limit compared to Ethereum, enabling larger and more complex transactions. With the Katla testnet deprecation scheduled for May 10, Hekla is expected to be the cornerstone of our transition to mainnet, supporting the Based Contestable Rollup (BCR) architecture.
