Narcissism is not only one of the most pressing but also one of the most complex issues in contemporary psychotherapeutic practice. Theoretical works on this topic are riddled with conceptual and lexical difficulties.
In popular literature, the term "narcissism" increasingly acquires negative connotations, and the word "narcissist" itself is becoming close to a swear word.
Nevertheless, this popularity has increased psychologists' interest in the problem of narcissism. Encountering narcissistic patients in practice presents certain difficulties for psychotherapists and counselors, inevitably leading them to a more detailed study of narcissism. A full understanding of this topic is only possible through the works of psychoanalysts.
In this paper, in addition to reviewing the topic of narcissism in psychoanalysis as explored by various authors, the focus is on pathological destructive narcissism. Thus, awareness of narcissism among practitioners has recently become an increasingly pressing issue.
