KEVIN PETER HE & JAKE OLESON perform "FLUX" live at Brooklyn Art Haus in NYC on Dec, 2 2023 in part of & FRIENDS, an a/v event curated by Creative Code Art and livecodenyc.
"FLUX" is an experimental 3D live cinema following the story of a man desperate to find his footing in an ever-changing reality. The piece is created live in a 3D game engine, with visual and sound performers improvising to control camera movement, editing, and animation of scene components, such as architecture and lighting, to tell a narrative that unfolds over the duration of the performance.
About the artists:
KEVIN PETER HE (visuals)
// instagram: / kevinpeterhe //
is a filmmaker and real-time visual artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Working across mediums and genres, Kevin uses interactive media to tell embodied stories in a post-cinematic context. These narratives often revolve around the filmic gaze, taking forms as audiovisual performances, interactive films, or XR (extended reality) installations that strike a balance between spectatorship and interaction. His aesthetic draws from cinema and technology, creating magical realistic worlds that interweave the familiar with the uncanny. Currently, Kevin is the creative director of the industry leading mixed reality creative studio ZeroSpace. He holds a master's degree from NYU ITP, where he also serves as an adjunct professor, and a bachelor's degree in film from USC. Kevin’s work has been exhibited at institutions and events such as Coachella, Tribeca Film Festival, Mutek Montreal, ONX Studio, Gray Area SF, New York Fashion Week, Ultra Miami, NEW INC, and Oculus Launchpad.
JAKE OLESON (sound)
// instagram: / jakeoleson //
is a film director and electronic musician based in Brooklyn. After an 8 year career making emotionally-resonant films in documentary, advertising and narrative contexts, Jake turned to electronic music as a more visceral and immediate way of expressing story and feeling. Jake’s interest in identity, the nature of reality and consciousness has led him to experiment with new AI tools like Neural Radiance Fields (or NeRFs) for his projects. He aims to combine cinema’s ability to shape our perception with new media tools to create impactful audio visual performances. More recently, Jake’s deeply personal, self-composed, NeRF film, “Given Again” won silver at Runway’s AI Film Festival. Jake went on to perform a live audio-visual rendition of “Given Again” at SIGGRAPH, the premier conference for computer graphics and industry innovation.
