Tales in English - The Frog Traveller / Frog the Traveller Cartoon
Cartoon The Frog Traveller / Frog the Traveller (by Vsevolod Garshin) There once lived a frog. She sat in the swamp all day, catching mosquitoes and flies. During the spring time she ribbited along with her frog friends. One day she was sitting and enjoying the warm drizzling rain. Then all of a sudden, there was a whistling sound in the air— it was a group of ducks that landed in the same swap that the frog lived in. At first the frog hid, but then she decided to take her head out of the water and take a peek with her big round eyes: she was very curious about where the ducks were heading to. – Quack, quack! – said the duck, – It’s starting to get cold! Hurry up to the South! Hurry up to the South! – Excuse me, Ducks! – The frog dared to say, – What is the South? –The South is good! There is warmth! There are a lot of warm swamps! There are so many worms to eat! The South is good! – Are there a lot of mosquitos and flies? – Oh! There are so many! The frog was excited and pleaded with the ducks to bring her with them. – How are we supposed to bring you? You don’t have wings to fly with. – said one of the ducks. The frog thought for awhile and said: – Have the two of you, hold a twig with your beaks, and I will sit in the middle of the twig. You will fly, and I will ride. The ducks were not thrilled to carry the frog three thousand miles in the air, but they still agreed to it because of how smart the frog’s idea was. The height that the ducks carried her to took the frog's breath away. «This idea of mine was excellent», proudly thought the frog to herself. After taking a break, the frog asked the ducks not to fly so high during the upcoming trip. During this trip, they heard human voices from below: –Look, look! –yelled the kids from the village below, –The ducks are carrying a frog! The frog heard this, and her heart began to race. If only the kids knew, that this was my idea– The frog thought to herself. –Look, look! –yelled the kids from another village. –What a miracle! Who thought of such an amazing idea? Forgetting about the height and her safety, the frog couldn’t resist and began to yell – It was me! Me! And with the yelling, the frog fell down, landing in the swamp below. Here, the frog told the other frogs about her story, and her brilliant idea of traveling by ducks; how she had her own ducks, who flew her wherever she wanted to go. She claimed to the other frogs that the ducks would come back for her. But the ducks never came back for her. They believed that the frog had crashed to the ground from the fall, and they felt heartily sorry for her.
