For our film "The Cold Rings - Unified Germany after Tokyo 1964," we visited Lothar Claesges at his home in Krefeld, North Rhine-Westphalia. In this conversation, he recalls his unfortunately far too short cycling career and his experiences at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo. To achieve this, he first had to survive the German-German qualifying competitions between East Germany and West Germany. An impressive athlete and a very likeable person, who always approaches life with a positive attitude, no matter what setbacks he faces, answers questions from Thomas Grimm. He died on November 12, 2021.
