2021 LonestarSTEM Competition Roundup
We're thrilled to release footage from our first-ever virtual Divisional STEM Competitions, bringing together students from across Texas: Capital Area (Austin), Corpus Christi, El Paso, Dallas, Gulf Coast (Houston), Golden Triangle, Lubbock, San Antonio, West Texas (Midland, Odessa, Presidio), and Wichita Falls.
This year's "Play the Field Challenge" was developed by engineers from ConocoPhillips, and asked students to select the safest and most productive locations for oil and gas wells, "evaluating the geology of the area, choosing the best depth for the well, and selecting the right equipment to use," working with a limited budget and time constraint. Each student stepped into the role of a STEM professional for the afternoon (Drilling Engineer, Facility Engineer, Geologist, Production Engineer, and Finance Analyst) to build skills in communication, collaboration, and innovation.
