Bootable USB Mavericks
In this tutorial video, I show you the easy way to make a bootable Mavericks USB drive and how to boot from that USB drive.
NOTE: You must have the "Install OS X Mavericks" file in the Applications folder for this to work. This file does get automatically deleted when upgrading to save space. If the file is not there, download it from the App Store. When it's done downloading, the installer will automatically start. Quit the installer and verify the file is now in the Application folder.
Not having the "Install OS X Mavericks" file in the Applications folder can result in a "command not found" error in Terminal.
If you do have the installer file in the Applications folder and you still get the "Command not found" error, please watch my alternative method video.
• Bootable USB Mavericks Alternative Method
Here is the command to enter in Terminal (shown in the video).
NOTE: FOR SOME PEOPLE, THE COMMAND BELOW DOES NOT COPY/PASTE CORRECTLY! Please make sure that it's correct when entering it into Terminal. If it's not correct, you can get a "Command not found" error. There seems to be an issue in the "createinstallmedia" part of the command when copy/pasting. Thanks!
sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
