A state of uproar has gripped the artistic community due to recent events and transgressions against artists, whether at funerals or memorial services, including the funeral of the late Somaya El-Alfy. More recently, there has also been the unauthorized taking of photos of stars at special screenings and parties, violating their privacy, as happened with actress Reham Abdel Ghafour at the premiere of her film "New Year's Map," seemingly to steal likes and views.
Reham Abdel Ghafour was keen to clarify her rights, writing on her Facebook account: "Article 19 of the Press and Media Regulation Law (180 of 2018): Filming 'indecent' footage of an artist is a serious legal offense, even if: it's in a public place, the photographer is a journalist, the person is a celebrity. Accountability exists if: the footage violates dignity, is used for sensationalism, or doesn't serve a news story of genuine public value. The journalist may be held accountable under: the Penal Code and the Cybercrime Law, or face disciplinary action from the Journalists Syndicate."
Reham Abdel Ghafour had previously posted, "It was a dark day when cameras on phones gave a chance to some despicable creatures who feed on cheap targets." However, the public didn't understand the reason for her post until the Journalists Syndicate clarified the matter in a press release regarding the violation of artists' privacy.
