The narrow-gauge railway of the Grünhainichen paper mill wound its way like a network through the entire, large factory. Beyond that, the tracks led down into the Flöha Valley to the Leubsdorf Castle Mill and, most notably, up to the so-called "Ascheberg" (Ash Hill) near the Priems Mill. The main purpose of the railway was to transport peeled wood to the wood pulp mill, while the ash and bark waste were taken to be dumped in the Flöha Valley, among other things.

In this film, you can experience the daily operations of this narrow-gauge railway during the final days of the GDR.

Those who look closely can still find one or two relics in our Flöha Valley today.

Many thanks to Horst Süß and Frank Drechsel for providing the photos.
