This Requiem was written as a concert work rather than as a liturgical work, and this setting of Psalm 130 is taking the place of the traditional Offertory. However, if one were to use this setting in a liturgical context, the words of the Offertory could be inserted in the tenor solo part from 1:20 to 2:55, and that portion of this movement alone could then fulfill a complete setting of the Requiem text for liturgical use.
