REJECTED TAKEOFF ENGINE FIRE

Hello everyone Daft here with you and in today’s video, we’ll take a look on how to handle RTO’s or rejected takeoffs. I rarely see any videos about this particular procedure in the simulator although it would be something interesting to know. For this RTO we’ll be getting an engine fire. As you can see in the performance page of the MCDU the V speeds are as followed. V1 128 VR 134 and V22 136. Your main eyes will focus on V1, because that speed is what determines if you can abort the takeoff or not. V1 is called a decision speed, you decide to abort or commit the flight. If you have an issue before V1, then by default we will reject the takeoff. Pull back on the thrust levers all the way to full reversers and brake, we want to stop as soon as possible because there’s a list of things we need to do after we stopped the aircraft safely. If you experience a problem after V1 then you’ll handle it as an inflight emergency and so forth. So here we are at Daytona DAB, on runway 25R. Everything is set and we’re ready to GO.
An RTO is a scenario which follows when it is decided to stop an aircraft during the takeoff roll.
In the event of an engine malfunction, the recognition of a significant abnormality, or an ATC instruction to stop the aircraft during the takeoff roll, transport aircraft in Performance Category ‘A’ should be able to safely reject the take off if the decision to do so is made at a speed not greater than the correctly calculated decision speed (V1).
A successful rejection should be achieved if the response is immediate and completed in accordance with prescribed procedures (SOPs). After V1, a reject should only be considered if there is a strong reason to believe that the aircraft will not fly.
Depending on Operator SOPs, a call of "STOP" to reject a takeoff based on stated criteria will usually be able to be made by either pilot. However, in some cases, the action following such a call will be only for the pilot in command to take, regardless of which pilot is PF.
