Blood Father 2009 A short film on my experiences with an abusive DAD
Now that he has passed on and I am over a decade removed from making this film, it is strange to look back at this old film about my abusive father. This was a personal film about my experiences with a father who nearly took my life. I had always feared I would become like my father, but when my daughter was born and I looked into her eyes for the first time, I knew things would be okay. It was a tough film to make, but it was cathartic for me and helped me grow as a human and change for the better. Change can be a long road, and things that happen to us as humans will always be part of who we are, but we have a choice to let go of that anger and move forward with our lives.... I'm not a perfect father, but I love my kids and am thankful for the chance to be a father and experience these relationships as I had wished for as a child.
I would note, that I do a VO after the fade up to white... some people mistake this as the end of the film, but the film continues into a VO section.
