The ULM addresses the issue of lost nuts or bolts, or corrosion of metal parts. It enables a variety of bolts and screws to be used to secure the covers—no nuts needed.
This patented feature is available on 10 in. Round Standard Series Valve Boxes (111 and 112 products), select D1200 Boxes, 14X19 in. Standard Series Valve Boxes (113 and 114 products) and 14 x 19 in. NDS Pro-Spec®. It redefines efficiency, convenience, and security with an innovative design. Let us explain.

The ULM uses a variety of common bolts and screws to secure cover:
14X19 in. Rectangular Standard Series, 14 x 19 in. NDS Pro-Spec® and select D1200:
Bolt diameters from 3/8 in. – ½ in.
Length: 2-1/2 in. min.
10 in. Round Standard Series:
Bolt diameter from 5/16 in. – 3/8 in.
Length: 1-1/2 in. min.

How does it work?
The Universal Locking Mechanism is not a traditional nut and does not have threads to strip. The design utilizes spring action to keep the bolt in place and flexes back into shape to maintain its structural integrity after each installation.
Can you still secure the cover using the traditional bolt and nut?
Absolutely! Boxes with the ULM also come equipped with a landing slot for a speed nut which provides an alternate way to fasten the cover.
