Path ‣ Object to Path on a text object now creates a group of separate paths, one for each letter. You can ungroup then combine the paths, or for a single-step method to convert text to a path just select the text and choose Path ‣ Union.
A lot of changes have taken place with LPEs since this screencast was made. For a more current look at the LPEs in general, and Pattern Along Path LPE in particular, in Inkscape 0.92 see parts 42 and 46 of my tutorial series in Full Circle Magazine (https://fullcirclemagazine.org/inksca...)

A few years ago heathenX and Richard Querin created a series of tutorial videos for Inkscape, a Free and Open Source vector graphics program that can be downloaded from http://inkscape.org
The original heathenX website no longer exists, however I have obtained a backup of all their tutorial videos and will be uploading them to Youtube over the coming months. All the videos are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license
