Due to deficits in recruitment, Croatia has decided to start mandatory military and civil service for young Croatian men (with citizenship) starting January 1, 2025.
Military service in Croatia has not been required since 2008.
The law is being drafted now, and is expected to pass soon. In this video, we cover these questions:
Why are they doing this?
Why will be drafted?
What will the training look like?
Can you conscientiously object?
Where will the training take place?
Will there be compensation?
Can you defer your service?
What are the open questions including how Croatians living abroad will be affected
