Thrawn: Alliances is a Star Wars canon novel written by Timothy Zahn published by Del Rey on July 24, 2018 as the sequel to the 2017 novel Thrawn, as well as the second book in the Star Wars: Thrawn series of novels. The story features Thrawn and Darth Vader on a mission shortly after the events of Star Wars Rebels Season Three, while a parallel narrative set during the Clone Wars features Thrawn, Anakin Skywalker, and Padmé Amidala.
Chronologically, Thrawn: Alliances is set between the third and fourth seasons of the animated television show Star Wars Rebels.
The novel is divided into two storylines. In the first storyline, Grand Admiral Thrawn and Darth Vader travel to investigate a disturbance in the Force on the planet Batuu, which lies in the Outer Rim Territories on the edge of the Unknown Regions. In the second storyline, Anakin Skywalker travels to Batuu after his secret wife Senator Padmé Amidala disappears while on a mission to investigate the disappearance of her handmaiden Duja. Point of view characters include Thrawn, Skywalker, Amidala, stormtrooper Commander Kimmund, and Imperial Navy Commander Karyn Faro.
