US Banks TARGETING British Columbia Businesses
In recent weeks, there has been an uptick in reports of US-based banks targeting businesses in British Columbia with fake text messages. These text messages, known as phishing attempts, are designed to trick the recipient into divulging sensitive personal or financial information. In many cases, the text message will include a link that directs the recipient to a bogus website that looks very similar to the real thing.
Once the victim enters their login credentials, the scammers can then gain access to their account and steal their money. This type of fraud is becoming increasingly common, and businesses in BC are urged to be vigilant when checking their text messages.
If you receive a suspicious text message purporting to be from your bank, do not click on any links and instead report it to your bank immediately.
