The speed of light can be experimentally determined using a variety of methods. Here is one common method:
Materials:
A laser
A set of mirrors
A stopwatch
A ruler
A dark room
Procedure:
Set up a dark room with a laser and a set of mirrors. Make sure the room is completely dark so that you can see the laser beam clearly.
Position the laser and the first mirror so that the laser beam is aimed at the mirror at a 90-degree angle.
Place the second mirror a fixed distance away from the first mirror, parallel to it, and at the same height. The distance between the two mirrors should be accurately measured and recorded.
Aim the laser beam at the first mirror and start the stopwatch.
The laser beam will reflect off the first mirror and onto the second mirror, where it will reflect back to the first mirror. The laser beam will continue to reflect back and forth between the two mirrors.
Measure the time it takes for the laser beam to make a certain number of round trips between the two mirrors. Record the time and the number of round trips.
Calculate the distance traveled by the laser beam during this time using the formula:
Distance = Speed x Time
where Speed is the speed of light and Time is the time it took for the laser beam to travel the distance.
Use the distance traveled and the time taken to calculate the speed of light using the formula:
Speed of Light = Distance / Time
Repeat the experiment multiple times to get an average speed of light.
Note: This is just one method of determining the speed of light experimentally. There are many other methods, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.
