Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is a symptom caused by the failure of the coronary arteries to meet the oxygen and nutrient needs of the myocardium (heart muscle), resulting in the characteristic chest pain known as angina. It is important to differentiate between anginal and non-angina chest pain. Knowledge of the pathophysiology and changes that occur will facilitate the diagnosis and treatment of ACS.
