‘Samemala (The album)’ is the debut album from Joi N’Juno and heralds the second long player released on Portuguese based Canopy imprint. David Baluteau aka Joi N’Juno is a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and full-time studio engineer with many years honing his craft. David earned his stripes as founder, composer, and lead singer of the cult French drum & bass-electro-punk band ‘La Phaze’ which has been running successfully for 25 years and recently concluded an extensive two-year tour. Now focusing on a new chapter in his creative journey, Joi N’Juno serves up an album that is fresh, funky, and mature.
The album encompasses influences, from classic 70s and 80s disco a laÌ Niles Rogers, Zouk boogie from Kassav, Afro Funk vibrations from Nigeria as well as modern disco house motifs. The resulting concoctions are aimed at the dance floor whilst retaining a pop appeal with its catchy compositions. Punchy production, funky guitars, groovy bass lines and infectious vocal melodies combine with dextrous keyboard wizardry, culminating in a fusion that has wide appeal both on and off the dance floor. The LP includes six original songs while the digital release will feature an additional two tracks. Lead single ‘Samemala’ has already been smashed by Folamour, with support from Laurent Garnier, Jimpster, Kiko Navarro and Nickodemus.
