Shrike Release Monitoring
After release doors are open on the enclosures housing our conservation bred eastern loggerhead shrikes, biologists hang around to monitor how the birds are doing. On this release day, WPC was lucky to have staff from our partner breeding facilities join us from Pennsylvania and Quebec, out on the Napanee plains. This particular release morning was unique because as soon as the release doors were opened, the birds eagerly flew out into the alvar, right over our heads!
This was a special full circle moment for the staff from partner conservation breeding facilities who do not normally get to see the end results of all their hard work.
