Rio de Janeiro Mountains: The Legend of the Sleeping Giant.
Today we'll explore the legend of the Sleeping Giant of Rio de Janeiro. This legend tells of a giant lying in the city. This giant is formed by the Rio de Janeiro mountain range.
Known as the Sleeping Giant of Rio de Janeiro or the Sleeping Giant of Guanabara, its profile stretches for 20 km and encompasses seven neighborhoods: Barra da Tijuca, São Conrado, Leblon, Ipanema, Copacabana, Botafogo, and Urca.
The stone giant's head is formed by Pedra da Gávea. The sleeping giant's feet are formed by Sugarloaf Mountain. And the petrified giant's body? It encompasses Pedra Bonita, Dois Irmãos Hill, Corcovado Mountain, and part of the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon complex.
