Bait's 4th split EP is a crispy duo of tracks: while Andrae's 'Lasca' is a cold and elegant interpretation of technoïd- dubstep, breathing minimal darkness whilst catching a racing pace after the second drop, Chewlie's 'Denial' leans more towards 'original' dubstep, almost flirting with deconstructed club with it's wonky and sort of warm character.
Chewlie, a breakthrough artist from Switzerland adept at sculpting tense, sharply defined atmospheres with eerie amounts of space and dreadful amounts of bass. A deep dive exploring nervous hallways of dislocated rhythm with a UK soundsystem attitude and a subtle but striking approach to sound design. Understated moodiness is the key here, resulting in powerful heads-down immersion heaters with stand-out moments to make the floor fall in line amidst meditative, patient pauses in between. In the field of leftfield dubwise club music, Chewlie’s voice strikes out with purpose and poise, another natural misfit in the many-sided bassweight landscape.
