Cardboard box automata is a great craft oriented project that demonstrates how cams can convert rotational motion into up and down motion.
During the pandemic, I wanted to have young people be able to create complicated mechanical contraptions with low cost materials on Zoom. The problem with Zoom is that it's a 2D image and it can be very challenging for an instructor to show all the good camera angles of a complicated 3D project in real time during a class.
I was pleased with the results and this video proved to be very helpful to have young people in our classes be able to understand how to make a cardboard box automata.
