The satirical poet and writer Sasha Cherny (real name Alexander Mikhailovich Glikberg) was a contributor to Satirikon, one of the most popular satirical magazines in pre-revolutionary Russia. Prominent politicians and lower-class citizens. Philologists and medical professionals. Playboys and women of easy virtue... All these are the characters in Sasha Cherny's poems, often crude, sometimes frivolous, but almost always witty, full of irony or malicious mockery.
From 1924, Sasha Cherny lived in Paris, contributed to the newspapers Poslednie Novosti and other periodicals, organized literary evenings, and traveled throughout France and Belgium, performing poetry for Russian audiences. Besides his poetic talent, Cherny's poems are exceptional as a collection of vivid illustrations of a tragic and beautiful era.
