This event serves to appeal to hopeful political candidates to include environmental issues in their manifesto and share results of a recent online survey on Malaysians’ environmental concerns leading to the 14th General Election. On 25 January 2018, a group of NGOs co-signed an open letter to the country’s politicians calling for greater emphasis in environment. More NGOs joined the call to all political parties to recognise the environmental aspirations of the people on 17 March 2018.

The NGOs that have signed the Open Letter are Biji-biji Initiative, Civil Society Organisations for Sustainable Development Goals (CSO-SDG) Alliance, Ecocentric Transitions, EcoKnights, Environmental Protection Society Malaysia (EPSM), Friends of Sarawak Museum (FOSM), Land Empowerment Animals People (LEAP) Spiral, Malaysian Nature Society (MNS), #PowerShiftMsia, Reef Check Malaysia, Sabah Women's Action Resource Group (SAWO), Sabah Environmental Trust, Sabah Wetlands Conservation Society, Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA), Society for the Promotion of Human Rights (PROHAM), Treat Every Environment Special (TrEES), Wetlands International Malaysia and WWF-Malaysia.
