I wrote Still Standing as today (28.3.24) is the 5th anniversary of my getting seriously ill with Dengue Fever and West Nile Virus whilst living in Brazil (moral of the story - religiously apply mosquito repellent at ALL times as there’s no vaccine or preventative medicine).
As an independent person, going from doing multi-day hikes/being v fit and active/international travel working for a human rights NGO….to being stuck in bed/sofa with “5% battery” being dependent on/cared for my amazing mum was a HUGE shock system.
Some days it took every ounce of determination to push through the pain/physical limitations and drag my ass out of bed. Recovery has been a long road and I am so, so grateful to everyone who’s supported me along the way 🙏🏼 Thank you so much 💗
