Booting a router involves initializing its hardware components and loading the operating system into memory. Upon power-up or reset, the router performs a series of self-tests known as Power-On Self-Test (POST), then loads the bootstrap program from ROM, followed by the full operating system from flash memory or a TFTP server, enabling normal operation.
