Wondering how to teach our students to decipher and discern the difference between reliable resources and fake news in this ever-evolving digital world? Here is your clue...join this presentation to solve the question by learning how to teach our students to be digital detectives! We need our students to become information interrogators, who are armed with a variety of tools for dissecting news stories and determining what’s real and what isn’t in our “post-truth world.” The presenter will share how she teamed up with literacy teachers to collaborate and teach students the necessary detective and information media literacy skills to determine the credibility of a source. You will gain a plethora of ideas, resources, tips, and tricks to teach this more important than ever topic to students of all grade levels K-12. Sarah’s toolbox of knowledge and resources come from multiple sources, but, in particular, the incredible work done by Jennifer LaGarde and Darren Hudgins, and the two books they wrote, will be highlighted in this presentation. You will leave this presentation with plenty of tools and evidence that you are able to teach your students to be super digital sleuths! This will be a breakthrough experience for both your students and you!
