The Yogyakarta Water Castle was built by the Sultan of Yogyakarta.
The complex houses 3 different pools. Two of the pool in full view and one private pool cut off from the world by a two-story building. The sultan used the private pool for his harem and daughter to bath away from the prying eyes of everyone else.
The building of the Water Castle started in 1755.
The area is accessed via two gates on the east and the west side, each of these gates leads to the centre of the complex, first to an inner octagonal-shaped courtyard on the east and the west, and then each of these courtyards leads to a central bathing complex in the centre.
Today Tamin Sari as it is known locally is a major attraction in Yogyakarta for tourists to visit. Don't expect to spend long there but its one of the things to do in Yogyakarta when you visit.
