To a Wild Rose is the first piece from Ten Woodland Sketches, Op. 51, by the American composer Edward MacDowell. It was completed in 1896 and first published by Breitkopf and Härtel. This particular recording is the seventh track off the 1968 record 'Hammond Organ Favorites Vol. 2' by George Whiteman.
About the composer:
"Edward MacDowell was probably the closest this country [United States] ever came to producing a romantic composer of the stature of European composers such as Beethoven or Brahms. MacDowell studied piano and composition first in New York, then later in Europe. His compositions range from large works for orchestra, piano concertos and songs, to smaller works for piano. It is his piano pieces that are best known."
