Today, I'm excited to share with you a special lesson on Wahine tuning, a beautiful Hawaiian-inspired guitar tuning that I absolutely love. I'm playing this gorgeous Grimes guitar, handcrafted right here on Maui by my buddy Steve Grimes, and it's the perfect instrument to showcase this unique sound.
In this video, I'll walk you through the Wahine tuning, which is similar to open G but with a twist - the low E string is tuned to C instead of D. I'll show you how this subtle change creates a rich, exotic sound that's perfect for fingerpicking and acoustic blues.
We'll focus on a simple but effective picking pattern, moving between G and C chords. I'll break down the fingerpicking technique step-by-step, starting slow and gradually speeding up to show you how the feel changes as we increase the tempo.
