A One Ball Path Adventure
Welcome to a new machine that explores a different side of chain reaction art. Follow the red ball on its journey through a variety of different scenes and obstacles before reaching home. Enjoy!
Building this machine was a super fun and challenging experience. From the start, I decided I was going to focus a bit more on the actual look of the machine than making the best tricks possible (which is not to say that I didn't put a lot of effort into making tricks). I used mostly construction paper to create much of the scenery throughout the machine, but also used various pieces from train track sets. One major thing I added during post-production that I didn't even plan was sound effects. To me the machine felt almost like a Mario level or a cartoon. I tried to make most of the sounds pretty subtle but I think they add a lot. This was definitely a bit of a challenge since I had never done anything like it before, so I am interested to see what people think. Also, I finally got a new editor! Trying to get the overhead shot was one of the most painful experiences ever. Every single trick in the machine just would not work. I was getting super unlucky with each take and after over 300 fails I decided to take the longest working take and edit it. I don't feel too bad about the decision since it is just an alternate angle and the cut is sort of hard to spot. For this version I also did not include sound effects.
Favorite tricks:
Swinging cart, chasing-boulder sequence, and dump truck trick.
