The bad omen effect can be used to trigger a raid on a villager that if you defeat gives the hero of the village effect giving discounts of villager trades and the villagers give gifts. The bad omen effect also can trigger an ominous trial in the trial chamber that is needed to get ominous trial keys that unlock ominous vaults to get the new items in minecraft 1.21.
