A story set entirely within a single room, alternating between prose and free verse, it takes us into the bourgeois Paris of the 1930s, into the home of a couple. One day, the wife leaves for the mountains, leaving her husband, a disfigured man, alone with the young maid, to whom he makes an absolutely astounding proposition.
