I made a dining table out of red oak board from my local home center that can extend using sliding dovetails, kind of.
It's more like using the concept of dovetail slides but I am building the dovetail pieces separately and is then installed onto the apron rather than the apron and dovetail slides are made from one solid piece.
In terms of material cost, I used around $300 dollars worth of red oak from my local Home Depot.
