Open Knowledge South Sudan, EFSS collaborate to implement digital literacy and Wikimedia projects
Open Knowledge South Sudan (OKSS) and Excellence Foundation South Sudan team up to boost digital literacy among teachers in Juba-based schools and Wikimedia projects through a six-month partnership starting in June 2024.
Open Knowledge South Sudan (OKSS), an initiative committed to promoting open access to information and fostering collaboration for positive change has entered into a six-month partnership agreement with the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) that seeks to enhance digital literacy among teachers in some specific Juba-based schools and continue open knowledge through Wikimedia projects. The two organisations will work together from June to December 2024.
“Open Knowledge South Sudan and Excellence Foundation South Sudan recognise the importance of enhancing digital literacy among teachers and fostering the growth of Wikimedia editors in South Sudan. To achieve these objectives, both parties aim to collaborate on implementing digital literacy training programs and initiating online training sessions on Wikimedia projects,” the organizations said in a joint statement.
According to Ronald Lomora, Team Leader at Open Knowledge South Sudan, the partnership aims to develop a digital literacy curriculum for teachers and students and to collaborate on training programs for Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects.
“Our work is to use our expertise in working with teachers to identify the appropriate target audience, especially for the digital literacy training program, and then organize venues. That means putting in the infrastructure that is needed, including the Zoom and seeing that there's an attendance record taken during the online sessions,” says EFSS Program and Communications Manager, Emmanuel Bida Thomas, “And also ensuring that the infrastructures needed are in place for the training sessions and then also will facilitate the disbursement of funds for participant expenses such as the data or transport because the online training that will be data refunds for full-time attendees,” he explained.
