Tongue in cheek Youtube hyperbole aside: frozen-thawed feeder rats are fed regularly to our reptiles to supplement a varied diet. Our lizards get a lot of sun, fresh air, and exercise.

As seen in video, apparently the ability of lizard's tongues have utility not only in their capacity to capture particles in air but also capture odor particles underwater.
Video is part of a body of work on the science of reptile feeding behavior that supported a master's thesis in zoology. Currently working on PhD in reptile venom research.
Rex our monitor lizard, similar to snakes, smell by using tip of their tongues, which rubs against a jacobson's organ (located roof of mouth) and the forked tongue--which is split into two tines at the tip--is believed to allow reptiles to sense from which direction "stereoscopically" a smell originates.
Following scent trails based on chemical cues is called tropotaxis. It's unclear whether forked-tongued reptiles can actually follow trails or if this is just a hypothesis.
