settling a bet with the Chinese [season 4 endless mode world record (250692) part 1]
this run was played today on october 17th, after the patch that introduced season 5. why did i go back to season 4 to break the world record?
here is the situation as i understand it:
a chinese player named 弓长王玉 achieved a score of 247k. his score, like mine, was placed on the cheater leaderboard for going above 240k. he abuses save reloading to get favorable monster wave compositions and to undo mistakes in his combat, allowing him to take 20% of the damage that other top prestige players take. he and his community of chinese prestige players consider this exploit as a fair part of the game. to be clear, 弓长王玉 is a very talented player. even without the exploit he can avoid more damage than most players. he is an exceptional laser user, watch his run here to see: • em run by 弓长王玉, laser/repellant/assessor
弓长王玉 believes that even though he and his chinese community use this exploit, they are still better at dome keeper than the west. The developer made a bet that if the western top players made use of the exploit and beat his score, then he would have to stop using the exploit, and he agreed.
luckily i did not need to use exploits to beat their score, but i made a backup of the save at around wave 43 so that i can do an attempt with the combat exploits, in order to see the difference in score and distance. when that run is completed i will upload it and add it to the description here.
TLDR: east vs west who is better?
IMPORTANT NOTE: my internet was unreliable while streaming this run, causing the vod to get fractured into 6 parts. it looks like a small portion of the recording was lost because of this. i've uploaded each part anyway, regardless of whether they are significant or not. internet problems seemed to resolve themselves for the last 3.5 hours, so that vod is mostly intact.
