This is exactly what the legendary Milk&Honey did. The bar team created a series called “HANDS” featuring different cocktails that essentially were variations of other successful cocktails.
The Right Hand (Aged Rum), Tres Hands (Tequila/Mezcal) and Smoking Hand (Scotch) were examples of this series.
The Left Hand, created by Sam Ross is a play on the Negroni…just before the Boulevardier had its comeback to popularity.
