Germany’s long-term goal in the Climate Action Plan is to become extensively greenhouse gas-neutral by 2050. The Climate Action Plan 2050 shows how to reach this goal. The Plan was adopted in November 2016 and implements the Paris Agreement in Germany.

In the Agreement, all countries made a commitment to keep global warming below 2°C and if possible below 1.5°C by creating a more climate-friendly global economy and limiting climate change in an effective way.
