The Byzantine Conquest of Carthage
The first step toward the Recuperatio Imperii Romanorum (Recovery of the Roman Empire) was General Flavius Belisarius's military expedition to northern West Africa, where a kingdom dominated by the Vandals was located. In 533, in less than a year, Belisarius managed to conquer this kingdom, which was a former Roman imperial province. Depending on how you view history, the feat could be viewed in two different ways: as the Roman reconquest of West Africa or as the Roman conquest of the Vandal Kingdom.
