The fall of Bulgaria and the Greco-Turkish War
Bulgaria was the first of the major nations allied with the Central Powers to surrender in the Great War. Shortly after, the Ottoman Empire surrendered, and a series of smaller wars erupted for control of the territories left behind by the partition of the Turkish Empire. One of these wars was part of a Greek project to revive the ancient Eastern Roman Empire in its Greco-Byzantine version.
