Hemming Men's Classic Trousers with Tape Part 1
Hello! We're learning how to shorten elegant men's trousers with tape. To avoid chalk stains, I recommend turning the trousers inside out. I measure the amount to be shortened with a tape measure.
I fold the pant leg seam to seam. Iron. On the back, I measure 6.5 cm exactly the amount to be shortened, and on the front, I add 1 cm more, or 7.5 cm, to ensure the trousers fit nicely. Using a ruler, draw a line and measure 6 cm from it for the hem and mark. Fold the fabric and transfer it to the back with chalk, making marks. Trim off any excess fabric. I fold the fabric along the drawn line, pinning it in four places, first along the seams, then down the center. Repeat with the other leg. Turn right side out and iron. My iron has a special plate that allows me to iron without scorching the fabric. Remove the needles. Then, be sure to steam the tape to shrink it, which will prevent the hem of the trousers from bunching up. I use a special tool to rip the seams; this will be necessary for inserting the tape. The tape on the trousers is needed to protect the fabric from shoes. If the tape wears out over time, it can be replaced at any time, and the trousers will always look like new. Experience has shown that trousers fray at the back, so I only sew it to the back half. We try to position the tape so that the hem protrudes slightly from the trousers. It's very easy and convenient to apply the tape correctly on ironed trousers; we start stitching directly under the hem. I used a size 70 needle on my machine with a stitch pitch of 3.5 mm. Open seams on the trousers need to be adjusted to avoid overstitching.

Now I stitch the area where we inserted the tape. To ensure the pants fit perfectly, I stitch the seam along the bottom, on both sides. Now I overlock the edge of the pants. Not everyone has an overlocker at home, so every machine has a zigzag stitch. In this case, you can use it. Finishing the edge of the fabric is necessary to prevent fraying.
