Dritan Rexhepi, an Albanian criminal, ran a large cartel from behind bars. Born in 1980, he began as a juvenile hitman and escaped prison several times. After escaping from various countries, including the Netherlands, Italy, and Spain, he settled in Ecuador. There he founded Kompania Bello, a group of 14 Albanian criminal organizations that collaborated in cocaine smuggling. Despite the efforts of law enforcement, the cartel led by Rexhepi continued large-scale cocaine smuggling into Europe. The story took a turn when Rexhepi was arrested in Turkey in 2023, raising questions about possible extradition and stirring up unrest over his history of escapes.
