Testing the rendering style effects for "Lunatics!" exterior / space shots. What to look for here is the texturing, lighting, coloring, and outlining effects -- and how they look when animated.
There will probably be some additional tweaks, but this is meant to show the approximate "anime-inspired" look that we're trying for. Backgrounds are painted and shaded. Textures are somewhat minimal, and we're using Freestyle to outline foreground elements, which gives them a nice "crisp" appearance.
We'll be doing separate tests for character and interior set animations to match.
"Lunatics!" is a free-culture/open-movie animated near-future science-fiction series being created with free-software tools (most important of which is Blender). It's about the very first permanent settlers on the Moon, and tries to be extremely realistic, not only about physics and engineering, but also about characters and space politics.
