Southeastern: London St Pancras - Faversham on September 26th 2024
So onboard a 6 car Class 395 Javelin (395024) on the 0855 Southeastern service from London St Pancras to Faversham
Calling at Stratford International, Ebbsfleet International, Gravesend, Strood, Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham, Rainham (Kent), Sittingbourne and Faversham
Our journey begins at London St Pancras where we depart from Platform 13.
Our route between London St Pancras and Ebbsfleet Intl we follow the route of HS1
Firstly as we across over the East Coast Main Line we enter into London Tunnel 1 at 4.7 miles (7.3 kilometres)
After Emerging from London Tunnel 1 we arrive at our first stop of Stratford International
On departure we descend back into tunnel again this time London Tunnel 2 being 6 miles long before emerging near Dagenham Dock where the line runs alongside the c2c route via Rainham as well as following the course of the A13.
Near Purfleet the c2c line heads towards Purfleet itself whilst we diverge away and then climb onto the Thurrock Viaduct passing nearby QE2 Bridge which the line crosses over the A282 towards Thurrock whilst passing under the bridge direction towards Dartford.
Then back into tunnel again this time the Thames Tunnel before we approach Ebbsfleet international with the low level continuing on towards Ashford International and in Eurostar’s case Channel Tunnel whilst we arrive on the high level platforms.
At Ebbsfleet International our train changes power modes from 25kv AC to the 750 volt DC 3rd Rail system for the rest of the journey.
After Ebbsfleet we join up with the North Kent Line via Dartford before calling at Gravesend.
Then we run non stop through Higham and into Strood Tunnel before slowing down to 15mph to arrive into Strood itself which is the terminus of the Medway Valley Line from Paddock Wood via Tonbridge and Maidstone West.
After Strood we head left to join up with the Chatham Main Line before arriving into Rochester with todays layout dating from Re-sited in December 2015
Then a slow 30mph limit takes us through Chatham before proceeding back up to speed before arriving into Gillingham
At Rainham (Kent) the Platform 0 is where Thameslink services to and from Luton via Greenwich and Dartford terminate whilst we continue onwards passing Newington and arriving into the last intermediate stop at Sittingbourne which is the terminus of the Sheerness Branch Line services from Sheerness-on-Sea
Passing Teynham before arriving into our final stop at Faversham via Platform 4
